When a party goes up for election, they post a MANIFESTO. All that this is, is a list in which they say what they plan to do if they get in power. They're usually things that the public want to hear, and because of this, to keep in power at the next election, they have to at least carry out SOME of the things from their little lists.
Every Government stays in power for up to FIVE YEARS, and during those five years, they use the time to implement the laws they say they would.
At the start of the Parliamentary Year, the QUEEN reads out a list of laws that the Parliament are planning on introducing that year. This is known as the QUEENS SPEECH.
, SO LIKE WHAT ARE THE ADVANTAGES FOR THIS ?
The manifesto allows people to have a clear idea of what the Government are going to do that year.
Because the Government have the majourity of the houses of Commons, any law that they propose can/will be passed.
, AND THE DISADVANTAGES?
If a new Government is elected, they can go and change all the laws that the last Government have passed.
